Our Mini-Vacation to Pensacola Beach

At the end of April, we took a much needed vacation to Pensacola Beach. Some of you may not know that Dustin and I lived in Pensacola for a few years right after we were married. Ethan and Reagan were both born in Pensacola, so it holds a very special place in our hearts. Going back there was "taking a walk down memory lane." Dustin and I both went to college at Pensacola Christian College, so we took the kids to the campus to see where we spent several years of our lives. Ethan and Reagan both thought it was "so cool"!

Jessica came over from Houston to meet us, and we had such a wonderful time! Kyleigh thought that the condo we were staying in was Jess' house! I kept trying to explain it to her that it wasn't, but she never quite understood! She has asked me a few times since we have come back home when we are going back to "Aunt Jessie's house"!

I can't say that we did a lot of exciting things, we mostly just relaxed and went back to some our favorite places to shop and eat (of course!). Our condo was oceanfront, so we enjoyed walks on the beach and just sitting on our balcony looking at the beautiful white sands and blue waves. Here are some pics of the kiddos at the beach.

Halloween and Trunk or Treat!

This year for Halloween, the kids had double the fun. In the afternoon, our church had a fall festival and the kids were able to "Trunk or Treat"! Which means that people from our church filled the backs of their cars/mini vans/SUV's with candy and the kids came by and collected tons of candy. Then after the festival, we went back to our neighborhood to trick or treat!

We always have a great time celebrating Halloween in our neighborhood. The men take all the kids trick or treating, and the ladies get to stay and give out candy (and chat!). Dustin always wonders why every year the guys have to go with the kids and the ladies get to sit in their lawn chairs and gab!

Ethan was an airplane pilot, Reagan was a medieval queen, and Kyleigh was Cinderella. Kyleigh was going to be Snow White, but Kyleigh (and Daddy!) saw the light-up Cinderella slippers and they fell in love!

The last week in July, we were all able to go to Gatlinburg, TN for a vacation with Dustin's Mom and Dad. It was very exciting that Dustin had a whole week off...doesn't happen often! We had a great, relaxing vacation. We spent some time in the National Park, playing in the water and looking for pretty rocks (Dustin, Tamara and I also played around with our cameras).

Another thing that we did was go to Dollywood...I hadn't been to Dollywood in about 20 years (That makes me feel quite old). A lot has changed, but much has stayed the same as well. They had some great roller coasters--which Reagan loved, but they also had some of the old rides that I remember riding when I was a little girl. It brought back happy memories, and we were able to make some new memories as well. Here are a few pics from our trip.

Duluth, MN

This summer, Mom, Dad, the kids and I met Jessica up in Duluth, MN for a quick visit with our good friends the Thoreson family. We hadn't seen them in about four years--a lot happens in four years! It was so nice to have the chance to catch up. It is quite a wild event to get our families together! We can be quite loud. I don't think I have laughed that much in a long time. One thing you always need know--if you are getting together with the Thoreson family, be prepared to laugh!

Our condo was right on Superior! The view was incredible--we were able to sit on the couch and see the big ships. The pool was right across the hall which the kids thought was amazing! Here are a few pics of our trip.

Our Trip To Holiday World

During the month of June, the kids and I headed up to Indiana to visit our family. It was a very busy month for Dustin, so it seemed like a good time to go. One of the highlights of the trip was going to Holiday world! Holiday world is a small amusement park in Santa Claus, Indiana. Until last summer, I hadn't ever been there--I didn't know what I was missing. It is the cleanest and friendliest park I've experienced. Not to mention, it has the best roller coaster (The Voyage) that I have ever ridden, (It beats the Beast, hands down!) It also offers free drinks and sunscreen! The only draw-back to the whole day was that we decided to go on the hottest day of the year! Here are a few pics of all the FUN!!!

The weather has been wonderful this past month or so, and the kids have been able to enjoy more and more time outdoors. With Kyleigh being two-years-old now, she can play more outside as well--she loved to be outside! Ethan has been out practicing on his skateboard which he received for Christmas from Aunt Bethany and Uncle Kevin. Reagan has been learning to ride the bike she received for her birthday, and Kyleigh has been puttering around in her little pink car!

Kyleigh's Birthday

Kyleigh celebrated her 2nd birthday at the beginning of February. She wasn't able to celebrate as many times as Reagan did, but she didn't seem to mind! This is one of those very busy months for Dustin, so I was very happy that he wasn't on call or had to work late. We were able to have a very nice little celebration with our baby!

She opened her first gift, it was just some socks or clothes, and she said, "Oh wow, Mommy, wow!" It was so sweet! She is really growing up, and changing right before my eyes. It's a little bittersweet. Here are a few pics from our big girl's birthday.

Reagan is a very lucky girl. She was able to celebrate her birthday three times this year! She celebrated with Ken and Tamara when they were down here just after Christmas. Then she celebrated with my family when they were down here in mid January, and finally she celebrated with us on her actual birthday! She received some great gifts! I know that it has been a long time since my last post, but my computer broke down. So, now I have a new computer and the blogging can begin...again! In January, Mom, Karen, Bethany and I went on a short cruise to Nassau. Jess was supposed to go, but work would not allow her. This was the first cruise for Mom, Beth and I. I will definitely be cruising again! We had a great time and here are a few pics!

Dustin was on call on Christmas day, so we went ahead and celebrated on Christmas eve (we thought it might be a little cruel to make the kids wait on extra day). Our Vacation--Day 3 @ Disney Hollywood Studios

Friday was our third day at Disney and Jess' last day. So, I thought we should do Hollywood Studios because I thought that was probably the place Jess would enjoy the most. We had a great day! I had never been to Hollywood Studios, so I was very excited. We went on a Star Wars simulator which Ethan loved, and watched a High School Musical street show. A big highlight of the day was the Aerosmith Rockin' Roller coaster--it was incredible...0-60 mph in just a few seconds, and it was in the dark and it went upside down! Can you tell that I really liked it? We rode it twice! Reagan cried because we didn't think she was big enough to go on it. Our little daredevil!
We also went and watched "The Muppets in 3D", and "The Voyage of the Little Mermaid."
But the absolute best part of the day was the Fantasmic show that night. It had so many of the Disney characters in it, I cannot begin to list them all. It was a water, light, laser, and firework extravaganza! I think we all were in awe! Here are a few pics of our day--I realized that I didn't take many pics this day. It was so chilly, I don't think I wanted to take my hands out of my pockets! And there are no pics of Kyleigh because she was not feeling well that day.

Our Vacation--Day 2 @ Epcot!

The second day of our vacation was Thanksgiving Day. I thought Epcot seemed like the place to go that day. We started the day with a character breakfast at the Akeshus in the Norwegian Pavilion. Wow! What a treat! We saw Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Ariel, and Cinderella. Reagan was in princess overload--Ethan even seemed to enjoy himself (though I don't think he would admit it!).
After breakfast, we went out to explore! We went on a little ride called "Mission Space," where there were all these warnings about if you were unsure to ride the "less intense" simulator--which we decided was a good idea since Ethan and Reagan were with us. It was so much fun, although Dustin was a little sick afterwards. Jess, the kids, and I were all up for riding the "more intense" simulator--which we did later, and greatly regretted (we were all very queasy after!!). We should have listened to you, Mom!

We rode several other rides, went to some great shows, traveled through "Spaceship Earth" and of course--took a tour around the world at the World Showcase. It was a great Thanksgiving! Here are a few pics! You will notice that there are quite a few more pics of Reagan than the other two kids. Ethan didn't really want to be caught on film with a bunch of princesses, and Kyleigh was not at all into meeting all these strange people dressed up in very big dresses!

Our Vacation--Day 1 @ Magic Kingdom

The first day of our vacation, I set up for us to go to Magic Kingdom. I knew this was the place that the kids wanted to go to the most. So, why keep them in suspense?! Well, guess what...the first thing that we had to do when we got there was buy rain ponchos! It rained off and on all day--which was a blessing and a curse. The curse was we were cold and wet all day, but the blessing was we hardly had to wait in line for anything!

We found out something very exciting on this first day...Reagan LOVES roller coasters (Ethan not so much) Dustin and I both really love to ride roller coasters, so we are very happy to have a fellow adrenaline junkie among us! Here are a few pics from our soggy, but fun day!

These past two weeks have been crazy, but so much fun. This past Tuesday Mom, Dad, Jess, Dustin, the kids and I went to Walt Disney World. This fall, Ethan played baseball and had a blast! The team he was on was a machine pitch team, so it was a little more challenging than T-ball. The coaches were outstanding! Ethan really learned a lot about the rules and techniques. The coaches weren't just about winning games, they were very encouraging. But I do have to brag and say that they never lost a game! Another Halloween has come and gone. It is incredible to me that we are already to November of this year. When I notice how quickly time is passing by, it makes me stop and remember to cherish everyday that I have with my precious little ones. They are growing so fast!
This year for their costumes, Ethan was a Ninja, Reagan was a fairy, and Kyleigh was a pirate! They all looked great! We had a wonderful time. Our neighborhood is awesome and we do a lot together. The dads took all the kids trick-or-treating, and the moms stayed behind and passed out candy. We put tables up in one driveway and put all our candy bowls out, and the trick-or-treaters would just come by and take some from each bowl.

Our kids all came back with FULL buckets of candy! Dustin is very excited--he loves candy as much as the kids! Here are a few pictures of our beautiful costumed kiddos!

The kids started back to school a few weeks ago. Ethan started 2nd grade and Reagan started Kindergarten. They both really seem to be enjoying their classes and like their teachers very much. I drove them to school the first few days then they began riding the bus.

Kyleigh is really an enigma to me. On one hand, she is a brute--very rough and tumble; but on the other hand, she is very girly--loves to play with baby dolls and try on Mommy's shoes (always the high heels). Last week she got into Reagan's dress-up box, and she absolutely loved putting on all the jewelry and play shoes. Also, in the pics you will be able to see that her hair is finally long enough to pull back out of her face--you have no idea how happy this makes me. Here are a few pics of my sweet enigma!

This year for his birthday, Ethan wanted to go bowling. The kids have loved bowling since they were 2 and 3 years old. Mom and Dad were here so they were able to go, along with our friend Dale from Pensacola and Ashton--Ethan's best buddy. We had a great time, and then came home for cake, ice cream and presents! For most of the month of July, the kids and I were in Indiana. We had a great time with our family--Stremming and Smith! One afternoon, we were able to go up to Avon where Dustin's Uncle Steve and Aunt Susie live and have a pool! What was really nice was that ALL of the Smith cousins were able to go. Susie said that it was probably the most kids ever in the pool! We had a wild time, and Tamara took some great pics...So here they are!

This week, we took a trip to Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN. The kids and I had never been, and we loved it. We had a beautiful day and wonderful company. My Mom and Dad went. Along with Karen, Jim, Angela, Joey and Maria. The kids had a blast (the big ones and the little ones)! We went on a Tuesday, so the park wasn't crowded at all. The kids especially enjoyed "The Octopus" ride. The grown ups enjoyed "The Voyage" roller coaster--the best coaster I have ever ridden. Here are a few pics from our fantastic day...

6/21/09--Father's Day

For Father's Day this year, Dustin just wanted to eat at home and relax (sleep). So, I made steak, smashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, and a cake with real butter cream frosting. It has to be real butter cream frosting for Dustin! Cake is one of his most favorite foods and he says that it is not worth eating if it doesn't have real frosting!

Unfortunately, he had to go into the hospital and round in the morning and he didn't get home until 1:30. So we had a late lunch. After lunch and present time. We spent the afternoon playing board games and watching sports (and of course, Dustin took a nap!). All-in-all, it was a very nice day.

Well, it finally happened. Our 1993 Buick Park Avenue died. It was a good car, and we were sad to see it go--mostly because it was free! Rest in peace, Park Avenue!

So, we have been car shopping these past few weeks. My two criteria were no white, and no minivans. So guess what we came home with...a white minivan! But I love it! It has so much room...we don't feel like sardines any more. Most of you know that I have been balking at getting a minivan, but I have finally crossed over to the "Dark Side."

Dustin is very happy as well because he is now driving our red Elantra and he doesn't have to worry if his car is going to start in the morning or if it will stop when he wants it to...which he thinks are two very important things! (I guess he is right.)

Reagan's Art Show...

Last night we went to an art show at Reagan's school where several of her original pieces were on display. I was very impressed with her work...it is obvious that she loves to draw and paint. She painted a copy of Van Gogh's Starry Night, she also painted a bowl of fruit, drew a picture of a face, and made a collage with scraps of paper. I took a few pics, but was only able to get one pic of Reagan with her work...here's what I was able to get...

Saturday at the Park...

Last Saturday, I took the kids to one of the parks here in Eagle Harbor. We had never been to this park before...it is very nice. Ethan and Reagan had so much fun playing and Kyleigh had a great time watching. I did get her out for a little while to swing, but for the most part, she was content to sit and watch. For Easter today, we started out with church this morning. Then out to eat for lunch at O'Charley's (our first choice was McAlister's, but it was closed). After lunch we came home for the presentation of Easter baskets and then an Easter egg hunt. Although it was Kyleigh's first hunt, she caught on very quickly!
One little tidbit that I wanted to share is at lunch, Ethan prayed. He started out with the usual, "Dear God, thank you for this food..." then he went on to say, "...and thank You that we could go to church today, and thank You for raising from the dead." All I can say, is out of the mouths of babes. I was really struck by the innocence and heartfelt nature of his sweet prayer.

I thought I would Ethan's favorite phrase as the title of this post because it fits perfectly! This past Sunday evening we went to see the USS Discovery Space Shuttle launch from Kennedy Space Center. Our neighbors told us about this retired couple who put up a sign on their front lawn inviting launch viewers to sit on their lawn to watch. So we decided to check it out. The view was perfect! The launch pad was straight across the water from us. We arrived about 20 minutes before the launch--just in time to get settled and watch some of the sunset. The evening was very clear, and the sunset gorgeous.

When the shuttle began to fire up, we were mesmerized. It was indescribable. So here are a few pics...

My Big Baby is 29!

I know, I know...it's been a long time since my last post, but what can I say.....
Well, today was Dustin's birthday, and it has been so nice. We went to church this morning, running late as usual. Then after church, we went to Copeland's for lunch. There was a Copeland's in Pensacola and we always loved it, so we were thrilled when we found out that there was one here. It was delicious!

When we got back home, we had birthday cake (of course). I made Dustin his favorite--confetti cake with buttercream icing! It has been his favorite ever since Granny Jean made me a Wonder Woman confetti cake for my birthday one year. Kyleigh REALLY enjoyed the cake. She kept putting her face down in the cake! After cake, Dustin opened his cards and his one gift (a shirt). His big gift he received last weekend--a new TV. Then we relaxed the rest of the day. All-in-all, it was a very nice day.

My Baby is 1 yr old...

Kyleigh turned 1 on Feb 5. I know it sounds very cliche to say, but time really does fly! It amazes me to watch my children grow. Sometimes I think that I can literally see them growing before my very eyes. Kyleigh is crawling everywhere, standing very well, and on the verge of taking her first steps. I have discovered that she is a very good climber. She can climb out of her walker, and just yesterday figured out how to get out of her pack and play! I don't know what to do with that girl...she is too smart for her own good!

For Kyleigh's birthday, we just had a small family dinner and party. I made a cake shaped like a cupcake, which I thought turned out very cute. Believe it or not, Kyleigh was not really crazy about cake! I was surprised...she is a Smith after all...isn't that a prerequisite? Anyway, she received quite a few gifts such as pj's, a swimsuit (she is a Florida girl), books, money, a cute little ball from Great Grandma Batt, a piggy bank, and several other things a well....

Reagan's Tinkerbell Birthday Party...

This past Friday evening, we had a birthday party for Reagan. She turned 5 on Jan 20th. The party was a Tinkerbell theme. Reagan loves Tinkerbell. I was surprised at the turnout. There were between 10-15 kids who came. Reagan was thrilled. She received lots of great gifts--more than I can list. We made wands out of pretzels rods, white chocolate, and sprinkles. We had a pinata, we watched the Tinkerbell movie, and of course we ate! Here are some pics of the fun and fabulous party!

Our Holiday Weekend...

This past weekend, the kids and I drove up to TN to spend some time with my family. The kids were off school for MLK day so we had an extended weekend. We had a great time and were able to see some snow while we were there--which thrilled the kids and made me a little nervous to drive home!
It was nice because we didn't have things planned very strictly, so it was pretty casual and restful. The condo complex where we stayed had an indoor pool so the kids were able to swim--which they loved (especially since it is Jan ). We also went to the Dixie Stampede which was a lot of fun. We had never experienced that before and truly enjoyed it. They put on quite a show! Anyway, the days came and went way too fast, but we had a blast. Ethan and Reagan enjoyed seeing their cousins again. Here are a few pics of the fun...

New Year and Lots Happening...

Sorry it has been so long since my last post--we have been busy. Here are a few of the happenings of last week: Dustin's parents came to celebrate Christmas/New Year's with us, Kyleigh has begun standing on her own, Ethan lost another tooth (and 2 others are loose), Kyleigh has gotten 3 more teeth (which means she has 7 in all now), and Reagan is still her same adorable self! Some of these events may sound mundane to some, but they are all big events in the Smith house.
Dustin's parents brought down our walker that we had for the other kids, and it has been a big hit with Kyleigh. She walks around this house like she owns it. She is a baby on a mission! We had a great time with Ken and Tamara last week. Dustin didn't get to spend as much time with them as he would have liked, but a little time is better than no time at all.

All of the packages have been opened. I can no longer see the floor of my living room. My happy children are tucked snugly in their beds. And I can heave a sigh of relief... It was a fantastic day (for both parents and children)!
We awoke early, but had to wait for Dustin to get home from the hospital. He had to go in super early (4:30AM) to round on patients. While we waited, we made the monkey bread so that it would be ready for us when we were finished opening gifts. Dustin arrived home around 8:30AM and our Christmas chaos commenced...Here are some pics from our day.

Last week my Mom and Dad were able to come down for a quick visit before Christmas. The kids were thrilled because that meant they would be able to open some gifts a week early! But the main reason that Mom and Dad came down last week was because Dustin and I had four tickets to the Jaguars vs. the Colts game!!! My parents are both huge sports fans (sometimes I think Mom enjoys sports more than Dad, and I think he would agree with me). So anyway, we had a wonderful week last week with lots of Christmas baking, Christmas music, Christmas shopping, Christmas present opening, and of course The Colts!

This is my absolute favorite time of year! If I could we would have decorations in every room of the house. But somehow we didn't even make it down to Jacksonville with hardly any of our decorations! You have no idea how bummed I was, but we had a great time decorating anyway (after we ran to Target to purchase a few items). Ethan and Reagan loved it, and Kyleigh enjoyed observing from a safe distance. :) Here are a few pics...

Thanksgiving....

This year for Thanksgiving, we (the kids and I) were able to head up North to Indiana. Ethan and Reagan were both out of school for the entire week of Thanksgiving, so we were able to spend several days. We had a wonderful time. The kids were so excited to see all their cousins, they had been asking for weeks how soon we were leaving!

It was so nice, the kids when they all saw each other, it was as if they were together all the time. They played and wrestled and had a blast! Thanksgiving day was a little hectic. We drove to Bloomfield and had lunch with the Burcham/Stremming side of our family, then got back in the car and drove back to Martinsville and had dinner with the Smith side of our family.

We also celebrated Christmas with Joey and Maria since we won't be there for Christmas. All-in-all, it was a very busy, but fun week.

Since Dustin has been gone, I have been trying to think of some fun things to do with the kids to help the time go by faster. So on Friday night, we had a fondue and movie night. The kids always love it when we have fondue! We had a cheese course and a chocolate course. With the cheese fondue, we had apple slices, cubes of bread, and steamed veggies. Ethan's favorite was the bread, while Reagan and I enjoyed the apple slices the most. Then with the chocolate fondue we had strawberries, bananas, pineapple, and marshmallows. Ethan's favorite was the marshmallows, and Reagan and I liked the pineapple the best. I snapped a few pics of our fun for everyone to enjoy!

Then we ended our evening with a little Kung Fu Panda and Stuart Little!

We went and had the kids' pics taken at the end of Oct. I hadn't realized how much more difficult it is to take pics of three kids than it was to take pics of just two kids. It was really hard and we ended up hardly ordering any pics because I didn't care for them all that much. Kyleigh had just really started crawling at the time that we had the pics taken, and everytime we would set her down for a pic, she would start crawling after us. And then when we actually got a decent pic of her, one of the other kids wouldn't be looking.... By the time it was all over, Dustin and I were both so frustrated. He absolutely hates picture day because it is so stressful. I am not sure why we make such an ordeal out of it, but we always do. So anyway, like I said, I only ordered a couple pics, and then set up another appt. But this time we are going where we are more comfortable--at the JCPenney in Plainfield...with my mom! :)

Can't Believe the Emotions....

These past few days my emotions have been all over the place. I have felt furious. I have felt sad. I have felt so confused. I have felt betrayed. I have felt grateful. I have felt loved. I have felt bewildered. It's amazing to me what an affect this election has had. It scares me. Has God removed His hand from America? What is going to happen in the next 4-8 years? I just have to keep reminding myself to have faith.
I felt so bad for my sis, Bethany, she posted a note (on Facebook) about how she felt about Barrack Obama, and why she didn't vote for him, she was not being disrespectful in any way. The next thing she knows, there is arguing back and forth between people who hardly know each other. It got to be so bad that she had to go in and delete her comment off of her Facebook page just so it would not continue.
This election has been particularly trying for Dustin and I because Dustin is in the Navy, so the new president will be his Commander-in-Chief. It just would have been a lot easier if that person were someone that it was easy to trust and respect, but that didn't happen. So, we will do as we were taught--respect the office of the President, no matter who is filling that office. I do, however, think it is hypocritical for someone to ask the men and women of our military to be patriots when he is not patriotic himself....
God is bigger than George W. Bush. He is bigger than John McCain. And He is bigger that Barrack Obama. And He is my Ultimate Commander-in-Chief.....

Okay, so here is a little funny incident that occurred tonight. Ethan had a tooth that has been loose for weeks, and Dustin and I were working on it tonight. We wiggled and wiggled that tooth to no avail. So we decided to try the string method, again to no avail. Finally after tears, Ethan said, "Let me try." So Dustin proceeded to tie the floss around his tooth again. And then handed the ends of the floss over to Ethan, who gave one mighty tug. The tooth came flying out of his mouth, and bounced off of Dustin's forehead! It was hilarious! We had quite a laugh after that one...

We Voted...How 'Bout You?.....

Today, when I went to vote, everyone thought Kyleigh was so adorable that they gave her an "I Voted" sticker as well. I thought it was so cute that I decided to post it.

You know that verse, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."~2 Chronicles 7:14 That verse has been running through my head all day. I am trying not to lose hope, but as the evening progresses, I am sorry to say that I am wavering. But not all is lost, I will continue to be vigilant throughout the night.

Halloween on our street is a big, exciting event/party. We set up a table and everyone puts out their bowls of treats. Then we pull out our lawn chairs and have a party! What I really enjoyed, is that the guys take the kids trick or treating and the ladies stay and pass out candy. When they explained to me how it worked, I thought it was a great idea. Dustin on the other hand wasn't quite as thrilled as me! All in all, we had a blast, and the kids received way too much candy. We will probably still have candy left when Halloween comes around again....

A Day Out With Daddy....

Yesterday, Dustin took the kids to the air show and they had a blast! They were able to see lots of different planes (which Ethan loved) and also saw the Blue Angels perform. I was relieved to hear that they provided earplugs, but I could hardly believe that Kyleigh actually left hers in place (which you can see in the above picture). Dustin said that they really enjoyed it, but it was a very long day (I was unable to go due to a headache). The sun was brighter than expected so they all came home sunburned which worried me--especially Kyleigh since she is just a baby. But when I peaked in at her this morning, it looks like the sunburn has faded quite a bit so I am relieved. All in all, it was a good day for everyone. The kids were able to spend a day with Daddy, and Mommy had a whole day to herself....

Mamaw and Papaw Boat Come to Visit...

This week, Dustin's grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Smith, have been visiting us. It is a long story why they are called "Mamaw and Papaw Boat." It has to do with differentiating between Ken and Tamara--who also go by "Mamaw and Papaw"--so Ken started referring to them (Grandma and Grandpa Smith) as "Mamaw and Papaw with the boat." Well, very quickly it was shortened by the kids (Isaac and Noah--I think?) to Mamaw and Papaw Boat! Anyway, to make a long story short, Grandma and Grandpa Smith=Mamaw and Papaw Boat.

So this week they came to visit and it has been so nice to visit with family. It gets a little lonely at times down here with Dustin working so much. We didn't get to go out and do a lot because the kids were in school during the day and had to go to bed early at night, but we did go to NAS JAX to show them where Dustin works, and we were able to get out and look at the various airplanes and helicopters that they have on display. They head back up to Indiana tomorrow morning, and it will be sad to see them go, but I take comfort in the fact that we will be heading home ourselves for Thanksgiving very soon....

Okay, so I finally figured out how to put music onto my blog! I am thrilled! I have been working on this for quite a while, and I finally got it. The real kicker is that I didn't have to ask Dustin for help. Usually, I will try something and if I can't get it, I will just tell Dustin that I don't know how to do it and he will figure it out for me. This time I did it on my own. I am growing up!!

Kyleigh has gotten into this habit of rolling over and crawling away right while I am the middle of changing her diapers! Although inconvenient for me--it makes for very cute pictures! Just this week, she has finally mastered the art of crawling and she has already moved on to pulling herself up next to the coffee table and the couch! At this stage, everything seems to change so fast--she is growing too quickly for me (I can't seem to keep up).

These past few days, I have been remembering the trip Mom, Dad, Bethany, Karen and I took to visit Jess in Athens, Greece. What a once in a lifetime experience. Jess was studying abroad through U Indy. Her apartment was in the Plaka--which was in the heart of the city. You could walk out on to her balcony and see the Acropolis! What a breathtaking sight. While visiting Jess, we also took a 3-day trip down to Cairo, Egypt. All I can think of to say it....Wow! We were able to see the pyramids, took an evening cruise down the Nile, went through the Egyptian museum of antiquities, and waded in the Red Sea. And although we were quite nervous at times due to the fact that we couldn't understand our guides well and the fact that they had our passports, and the food just about killed us--I would do it all over again. It was incredible!! Even if I had to hear Bethany saying, "This is so cool!" over and over and over again.

Yesterday we took the training wheels off of Ethan's bike, and today he is riding without help. I can hardly believe how quickly he has caught on! Yesterday afternoon, Dustin was trying the typical way of holding on to his seat for a while and then letting go which was working okay. But then this morning he just tried a few times on his own and did it! I guess he just needed to figure it out on his own.

Anyway, Aunt Jessie sent the kids these Utah State University T-shirts--which they love, so I thought I would post a pic so she could see them. I also asked the kids what they would say to Jess if she were here. Ethan said, "I like the shirt!" Reagan said, "We love you, Jessie!" And Kyleigh just grinned at us which I am sure was to say, "Thank you for the shirt, Aunt Jessie, they are greatly appreciated!"

Ready, Set, and Go....

This past week, Kyleigh has really started moving around. Usually she will roll wherever she wants to go, but now she has started scooting. I can't really call it crawling, but she is getting very close. As you can see, she is getting up on her hands and knees! So many things seem to be happening with her at once; becoming more mobile, eating more and more new foods, and she is babbling a lot! I love to watch her learn and discover new things. She loves the sound of her voice! Sometimes she will just squeal at the top of her lungs and then laugh because she thinks she is so funny!! This girl is almost on her way, and I think it is almost time for me to get out the baby gate!

Hey, this is Dustin. I was sitting here looking over Sara's new and improved blog and wanted to take the time to mention how much I love her. She has spent a lot of time working on this blog so that you all (our friends and family) can keep up with what is going on in our lives way down here in Jacksonville. She has done such a wonderful job and I am so proud of her! I know that it has been a challenging last few months trying to adjust to our new lives. I am not always able to help around the house but she has kept everything running smoothly.
Residency is going well, although it is overwhelming at times. I am on an outpatient month, which means I just work in clinic all day. That means that I don't have to go in really early or stay really late, which has been a nice reprive. I am on call 1-2 times per week which means that I stay at the hospital after regular business hours through the night and leave the next morning. As you can imagine that makes those nights difficult for Sara, at home with the kids by herself. She tells me that she has trouble sleeping without me, which sounds sweet at first but I think it's just because she watches scary TV shows before she tries to go to bed.
Anyway, I should get back to studying . . . Okay, your right, I just want to go see the second half of the Monday Night Football game. So this was the view of the sky from our driveway a couple nights ago. It was just breathtaking, so I thought I would post it so everyone could take a gander. At times like these, when the kids are out riding their bikes and I am pushing Kyleigh along in her stroller and Dustin is home (not on call), it doesn't seem like life could get any better! Or as Dustin likes to say, "Just living the dream!"

This week Reagan started school. She was so excited that an hour before it was time to go, she started asking if it was time to leave yet! She looked so cute with her pink backpack and her Dora the Explorer lunch box. Her teacher's name is Mrs. Wilson, and every day she is making new friends. I went in last week for an orientation day and was thrilled when I saw her classroom. It is so cute. I can tell that they are really going to learn, but they also are going to have a lot of fun. There was a kitchen set, a little library, and an area where they do puppet shows! They really encourage the children to use their imaginations.
In two weeks, she will start a special program called Brain Boosters and two days a week she will stay until 2:00, during which they will learn music, science and math. Such a big girl! What will I do without her for the whole day?!

It has taken a while, but Kyleigh has finally figured out how to sit up! She has been trying for a month now, and now she has succeeded! I am so thrilled! As you can see, she still falls over at times, but she can stay sitting up for quite a while! Way to go, Honey!

What has happened to my little boy?

As you all know, Ethan started 1st grade last week. Well, this week he started riding the bus! I feel like he is growing so fast. I am happy that he is doing so well and loving school, but the selfish part of me is sad because I miss my baby. In the mornings, he walks to the bus stop with our neighbor and his daughter, and in the afternoons he runs home from the bus stop. I'm not sure why, but this bus thing is harder for me than him starting school!
Monday, he had a class project. It was called an All-about-me bag. He had to bring in a bag with 3-5 items that he would show to the class to tell about him and his family. He took in his Colts helmet, his Navy shirt, a stethoscope, and photo album with pictures of our family in it, and a golf ball! He took the Colts helmet to tell them he was from Indiana and he loves the Colts (especially Peyton)! He brought the Navy shirt because Daddy is in the Navy. He showed the stethoscope because Daddy is a doctor and Mommy is a nurse. The golf ball was to tell them how much he likes to play golf, and that he got golf clubs for his birthday. The photo album was to show the class his two little sisters. His teacher called me that afternoon to tell me how impressed she was with Ethan's project. She said that he has been very quiet the first few days, but when he got up to talk about his project he just came alive. What a joy it is hear that your child is doing well and growing! So again, I ask the question, what has happened to my little boy.........how could I forget, he is growing up!

Ethan started 1st grade this week! It was so strange sending him to school in shorts, t-shirt and sandals!! His teacher Ms. Corsi seems very nice, this is her first year here. He actually only had three days of school his week because of Tropical Storm Fay. He was out Thursday and Friday (snow days!!). Next week he starts riding the bus. We will see how that goes.

Yesterday, we went swimming at the Swim Park. They have a rather large slide there, and Reagan went down it all by herself!! Ethan went down it by himself as well, but he has always been more daring. Reagan is the one who is a little more shy and timid, but now she is becoming quite brave. I am so proud of her!

This evening, Dustin and I have been watching the Olympics and I was struck by how amazing such events are. They cause so much pride to well up in me for this amazing country. I love this place! We recorded the events from last night because they were coming on so late, and I waited until Dustin got home from the hospital to watch with him. We were watching the men's swimming relay, and by the end we were both standing and cheering. What a rush!! I have realized that I am quite a Phelps fan (how adorable is he?!). I'm in such awe at the dedication that these athletes possess, if only I had a fraction of that dedication, hmm....

Today is Friday--the end of the week. Yippee! Dustin is off this weekend, which means it is time for me to recharge my sanity. Don't get me wrong, I love being home with my kids. The only problem is the car that I have to drive (for now) doesn't have a working AC and intermittently decides not to start--so I am REALLY at home with the kids! But I love my life anyway!
I don't think I have mentioned this, but we were able to acquire tickets to the Colts vs. the Jaguars game!!! I am so thrilled. I have always wanted to see Peyton play in person! We have gone to a preseason game and we were able to see Peyton, but he didn't actually play. I also just found out that Wicked is coming to Jacksonville next year. I have already told Dustin that we are so there--I don't think he is as excited about it as I am. Brian, Jess, Beth and I went to Chicago a couple years ago for a sibling bonding time and saw Wicked while we were there. We loved it. (Even Brian--"Green girls are hot, God bless William Shatner!")
Well, not a lot going on here. I guess I will close for today. 6 days until Mom, Beth and Karen come down for a visit, and 10 days until Ethan starts 1st grade! Look out Fleming Island Elementary......

Well, Ethan celebrated his 6th birthday yesterday. What a great day! We had a blast. We had pizza for dinner--which is what he requested and a cookies and cream ice cream cake for dessert. For his gifts, he received a Prince Caspian helmet and sword. He was very excited!
